Change of jobs...

I'm incredibly proud to announce that, starting today, I'm officially part of the Octane Render team at OTOY New Zealand (formerly Refractive Software).

You can check out the official announcement on the Octane Render forum here:

I've been following Octane Render (the fastest unbiased GPU renderer in the world) since the day it was announced in January 2010 (see http://raytracey.blogspot.co.nz/2010/01/octane-render-realtime-gpu-based.html) and have always believed that it had an extremely bright future because it was essentially the closest thing to my dream of real-time cinema-quality graphics.

The recently released plug-ins for Max and Maya combined with some recent breakthroughs on the workflow front will allow for some extremely cool and unseen stuff. Can't wait to get my hands dirty on it.

Congrats for the new Job... but how can a renderer be unbiased by restricting path Depth so much???

Congrats Sam.
It's interesting that Otoy opened a branch in New Zealand.
Looks like they are stepping in their game, most likely partnering with Weta Digital (maybe that means that Avatar 2 & 3 are gonna to be rendered with Octane on GPUs? lol)

Cyrille, thanks.

FreDre, Avatar 2/3 rendered in Octane would indeed be awesome :)

Hey Sam,

What would mean it for the blog posts on real time rendering and Brigade?

Mirror said...

congrats sam! hope you continue your brigade posts and tests!

p.s. there was an older entry ( i think 18 june ) about brigade, but later you it dissappeared. did you delete it ?

Sam Lapere said...

Anonymous: I will probably post less frequently about Brigade, but don't worry about that too much. Brigade development will actually get a significant and sustained boost in the coming months.

Mirror: thanks, I removed that post because I was not happy with the quality shown in the videos. I'll make new videos once Brigade is further along.
